SESSION : 2017/2018
SUBJECT: BASIC TECHNOLOGY
TOPIC:  CIRCLES/TRIANGLES
CLASS: JS2
DATE:  02/10/17 – 06/10/17
LESSON PERIOD:   1 – 2
Learning Objectives:  At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
make use of compasses to construct circles and triangles;
construct given tasks accurately and neatly;

Study Questions:
How can circles be constructed, given specific radii or diameter?
What procedure should be followed when constructing equilateral triangle of given length of sides?
How can triangles be constructed, with given sides?
Key words:

Circles
Triangles
Construct
Instructional materials:
Drawing instruments and materials.
Pictures and charts showing circles and triangles.
Previous learning:

The students can construct angles accurately and confidently.
Learning Activities in steps:

Step 1 – Briefly revise last lesson. Introduction of new lesson. The teacher guides the students to describe and define Circles. Discuss the parts of a circle. Make good use of the instructional materials.

Step 2 – Teacher guides the students to use pairs of compasses to construct circles of:

                   i.            Radius 15mm
                 ii.            Radius 60mm
                iii.            Radius 25mm
              iv.            Diameter 38mm
                v.            Diameter 50mm

Step 3 – Teacher guides the students to describe and define triangles. Discuss the parts and types of triangles. Teacher guides the students to construct equilateral triangles with the following dimensions:

         i.            50mm
       ii.            45mm
      iii.            50mm

Step 4 – Teacher guides the students to construct triangles with the following dimensions:

         i.            AB = 40MM  BC = 20MM  AC = 30MM
       ii.            AB = 60MM  BC = 45MM  AC = 35MM
      iii.            AB = 45MM  BC = 50MM  AC = 60MM
