Learning Objectives:   At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
mention ways in which technology has improved standards of living;
give reasons why technology literacy is needed;
outline the stages in technology;

Study Questions: 
What are five ways in which technology has improved standards of living?
Why do we need technology literacy?
How can you briefly describe each of the stages in technology?
Key words:

Instructional Materials:
Pictures and charts showing safe work habits and attitudes.
Safety devices; e.g. fire extinguishers, sand buckets, etc.
Previous learning:
The students can define technology.
Learning Activities:
Step 1 – Teacher reviews previous lesson, and states learning objectives – including study questions.

Step 2 – Lesson introduction – students research ways in which technology has improved standards of living.

Technology is not necessarily ‘transferred’, it is developed. People develop technology when they improve their knowledge, skills and procedures for making, using and doing things.
Technology leads to economic development of the community where it is used. Technology can be applied to all aspects of human endeavours, be it religion, politics, banking, social, business, academics and sports.
Step 3 –Teacher guides the students in a class discussion on the need for technology literacy.

All the countries in the world have been blessed by nature.  Abundant natural resources at their disposal, but only countries with a well-developed technology makes maximum use of her gifts for the benefit of her people.  Countries with under-developed technology cannot make adequate use of their natural resources. Such countries will sell her raw materials at low prices to developed countries.

Step 4 – Teacher and Students research into the stages of technology

Step 4 -  Teacher gives the students class exercise
Step 5 – Teacher summarizes and evaluates lesson.

Differentiation:
Level 1:  students  that should be able to achieve 80 – 100 %
Level 2:   students that should be able to achieve 60 – 79 % 
Level 3:   students that should be able to achieve 50 – 59 %.

Step 2 – Teacher uses instructional materials to discuss with the students on poor and under-developed technology

Poor or under-developed technology can lead to shortage of food and clothing, poor shelter, poor health, inefficient means of transportation and communication and ineffective internal and external security.
Step 3 – Discussion on importance of a good educational system.

A good educational system is the bedrock of developed technology. It encourages people to make use of both their brains and hands to acquire suitable knowledge and skills to design and produce methods and processes that will enable them to make maximum use of their resources for the benefit of the society.
Step 4 -  Teacher gives the students class exercise
Step 5 - Teacher summarizes and evaluates lesson.
